Luminato artistic director’s queer picks

Weisbrodt moved to Toronto with fiancé Rufus Wainwright

Jorn Weisbrodt, the artistic director of Luminato, will have his big coming-out on the Toronto arts scene when the multidisciplinary arts festival opens June 8.

Weisbrodt, who may be better known among pop culture types as Rufus Wainwright’s other half and fiancé, moved to Toronto with the famous singer to try his hand at running Luminato.

“It was always my dream to become the artistic director of a festival, to work with artists and put a program together and bring it to an audience,” Weisbrodt says in a video interview with Xtra.

Weisbrodt, who was born in Germany, has worked with La Scala opera house in Milan, the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia and the Lincoln Center Festival in New York.

In the video interview below, Weisbrodt shares his picks for the festival and what he thinks will be of interest to a queer audience. Luminato runs June 8 to 17. For more information, click here.
