New Pride Toronto executive director will soon be announced

The annual general meeting is set for Oct 27

Pride Toronto (PT) has a shortlist of six local candidates for the executive director position, Xtra has learned.

Board co-chair Francisco Alvarez says the organization hopes to have an ED selected by the end of September.

Although he would not reveal any names, Alvarez says the search is “going well.” The board looked at a number of potential candidates before narrowing the field to six.

PT’s interim executive director Glen Brown’s last day is Sept 16. Brown has held the post since April and led the organization through the 2011 festival as well as through an ongoing battle for funding with Toronto City Hall.

Brown accepted the position following the abrupt departure of Tracey Sandilands in January, who held the position through one of the most tumultuous years in the organization’s history. Alvarez hopes to have a new ED installed by next month.

The PT annual general meeting will be held Oct 27. “By then we will have a new ED and the audited financial statements,” Alvarez says.
