Where is the good dyke porn?

There’s a bad joke that goes something like, “What do lesbians actually do in bed? I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.” My mission for this month was to find the real answer to that question. Is there actually any good dyke porn out there?

In the gay world, male porn stars are idolized as symbols of unfettered and unashamed sexuality. The likes of Jeff Stryker and Matthew Rush are practically household names. So where are the dyke porn superstars? For that matter, where is the dyke porn?

Certainly, if you click “woman likes woman” on XTube, you get the kind of teased hair, overly made-up girl-on-girl porn that is clearly made with straight men in mind. That may be all well and good, but what are lesbians supposed to watch?

Enter Bren Ryder and her website GoodDykePorn.com, where she does just about everything from model to compose music. “It’s important to create images that queer women can relate to,” Ryder tells me, “so I created a site that features real sex between real lesbian women.”

Some of it is amateur-styled, girl-on-hotel-bed-playing-with-self stuff, while some goes all the way up to full-on vaginal fisting and bondage play. Orgies, strap-ons, outdoor scenes, home invasion scenarios… pretty much every box is ticked.

Part of Ryder’s mission is to help inspire more people to create dyke porn for themselves.

Elaine Miller, co-creator of the annual Queerotica festival and self-professed “poly futch dyke-daddy leatherfreak dragking spokesqueer,” supports the initiative.

“I think we need to continue the slight upward trend of the last 20 years, producing more onscreen representation, and even more varieties of representation,” says Miller.

My good friend Chris, a gay-bi boy in San Francisco who met his current les-bi girlfriend when he discovered she was fisting his ass (gotta love SF), agrees.

After “historically awful” lesbian porn, he credits Pink&White Productions’ The Crash Pad web series with starting a turn for the better. “It’s the first one I really know of to showcase sex between bio-f’s that’s actually hot,” he says.

Available at CrashPadSeries.com, the show has been going on for more than 60 episodes already. It follows the lives of a cast of characters who cum and go in San Francisco’s hottest lesbian hook-up joint. The cast also includes a healthy proportion of trans men.

That’s one thing I’ve noticed about dyke porn. Whereas gay-boy porn can tend to segregate by type — all twinks, all bears, all black, all leather, etc — dyke smut includes everything, all at once. Maybe it’s because the industry doesn’t have the sheer volume that it can be picky, or maybe it’s just that the lesbians are more inclusive and less judgemental.

RealLesbianPorn.net provides a great set of links to other sapphic sites. There’s also the “erotic entertainment network” Cyber-Dyke.net, the UK’s WildCherryLondon.com, and AbbyWinters.com from Australia. And I’ve no doubt there are plenty more out there. As Miller says: “Build the variety and availability of hot lesbian films… and women will come.”
